The Heavy Work Everything Else Is Built On.
A trusted demolition and groundworks contractor, delivering projects nationwide from first machine to final load.
Who we are
A Contractor You Can Hand the Whole Job To.
The Blackford Group is a trusted demolition and groundworks contractor delivering projects nationwide for commercial, industrial, and residential clients.
Built on a reputation for reliability, professionalism, and high standards of workmanship, we provide the expertise and resources to deliver projects safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
We offer a complete service from demolition and site clearance through to excavation, foundations, drainage, and groundworks. Managing every stage in-house allows us to maintain exceptional quality, improve efficiency, and provide our clients with a dependable, seamless service.
The company works out of a yard at Upper Wilting Farm in St Leonards-on-Sea, on the East Sussex coast. That is where the excavators, dumpers, rollers and tippers live, and where crews start from. Owning the plant rather than hiring it is a deliberate choice: it means a programme does not slip because a hire company is short of machines, and the operator who turns up has worked with our supervisors before.
Running eight divisions under one roof is the other half of it. A site rarely needs just one trade. Something has to come down, the arisings have to go somewhere, the ground has to be dug and levelled, and often it needs piling or underpinning before anything can be built. Handling all of that ourselves means one programme, one point of contact and nobody standing around waiting on another firm.
The work ranges from a single garage coming down to sea defence on an exposed coast, a factory slab, a college campus and a strip out inside a live zoo. What does not change is the approach: look at the site properly, plan the sequence before a machine arrives, and leave the ground in a state the next trade can actually work on.

FAQs
About the Company
Anything else you want to know, call 01424 830613.
What kind of work do you take on?+
Demolition, strip out, groundworks, site enabling and remediation, haulage and muck away, sea defence, piling and underpinning. That covers everything from clearing a plot and taking a structure down through to forming the foundations the new build sits on. Jobs run from single domestic structures up to commercial and industrial packages.
Do you use subcontractors?+
The core work is done by our own crews with our own plant, which is the point of running eight divisions in-house. Where a job needs a genuinely specialist trade, licensed asbestos removal being the obvious one, that goes to a contractor properly licensed for it, and we coordinate them rather than leaving you to.
How do you approach safety on site?+
Every job gets a method statement and a risk assessment written for that site rather than pulled off a shelf, and the sequence is agreed before plant arrives. Where a structure has to be held up while walls come out, temporary works are designed and checked. Exclusion zones, dust and noise control and neighbour notification are planned in, not bolted on.
What happens to the material you take away?+
As much as possible is segregated and recycled. Concrete, brick and block can often be crushed and screened on site and reused as fill or a working platform, subject to testing and the engineer's specification. What has to leave goes under the waste duty of care, with hazardous material handled separately and the paperwork kept.
What paperwork can you provide before we start?+
Method statements and risk assessments written for your site, insurance and competency documents, and waste transfer paperwork as material leaves. If your main contractor or insurer needs specific cover levels or a particular pre-qualification pack, tell us at enquiry stage and we will confirm what we can supply before anything is agreed.
