Areas we cover
Delivering Projects Nationwide.
We are based on the East Sussex coast and work across the country for commercial, industrial and residential clients. Find your area below.
Where we work
Based on the Coast, Working Nationwide.
The Blackford Group works nationwide. Our yard is at Upper Wilting Farm in St Leonards-on-Sea, on the East Sussex coast, and that is where the plant, the lorries and the crews start from. It is not where the work stops.
We travel because the work asks us to. A demolition or groundworks package is a self-contained job with a start and a finish, so once a site is set up and the plant is on it, the distance from our yard matters far less than whether the right machines and the right people are there. We have taken jobs from the Sussex coast up to London, out to Salisbury and as far as Birmingham, and we mobilise the same way each time.
The pages below cover the towns we are asked about most. Each one goes into the ground conditions, the access, the local authority and the neighbourhoods we work in, because those are the things that actually decide how a job runs. If your site is somewhere that is not listed, that is not a problem. Call us and we will tell you straight away whether we can get to you.

Where Our Work Tends to Come From.
Sussex and the Coast
Our home patch, and the one we reach fastest. Coastal ground, steep valleys, Victorian terraces and seafront property from Rye to Chichester, plus the sea defence work that the shoreline needs.
Kent and the Weald
Wealden clay, conservation areas and market towns that are growing fast on their edges. A mix of town centre alterations and larger enabling works on new development land.
London and Beyond
Tight city sites where everything is booked in and nothing is stored on site, and larger regional jobs where we bring the whole package with us.
How it works
Working Away From Base, Without the Usual Problems.
We Bring the Whole Package
Because all eight divisions sit under one roof, a job away from home does not mean juggling four different firms. The same team handles the demolition, the muck away, the groundworks and the piling, which means one programme, one point of contact and no gaps between trades where a site sits idle waiting for someone else to turn up.
Our Own Plant and Lorries
We do not rely on hired-in machines or subcontracted haulage. Our own excavators, dumpers and tippers go out to site, which keeps the programme in our hands and means we are not waiting on a hire company when something needs changing halfway through a week.
We Survey Before We Price
Wherever the site is, we come and look at it. Ground, access, services, neighbours and what is actually standing there all change the method and the cost, and none of them can be judged properly from a drawing. That visit is how you get a price that holds rather than one that moves once work starts.
FAQs
Coverage Questions
Do you really work nationwide, or mainly in the South East?+
Both. The South East is where most of our work is, simply because it is closest to our yard in St Leonards-on-Sea. But we take projects across the country and have worked in London, Salisbury and Birmingham. For anything further afield we look at the size and length of the job, because a package big enough to justify moving plant and crews is usually worth doing wherever it is.
My town is not on your list. Can you still come?+
Almost certainly. The towns listed here are the ones we are asked about most often, not a boundary. Tell us where the site is and what the work involves and we will give you a straight answer on whether we can help, rather than saying yes and then struggling to resource it.
Does it cost more if the site is a long way from your yard?+
Distance affects mobilisation and haulage rather than the work itself. Getting plant to site and muck away from it is a real cost, so it shows up in the price for a far away job. On larger packages it makes very little difference per week, because the plant is on site for the duration rather than travelling back and forth.
Can you handle a site with very difficult access?+
Yes, and it is worth telling us early. Narrow lanes, weight limits, low bridges, listed neighbours and town centre traffic all change which machines can get in and how material comes out. We plan the method around the access rather than turning up and finding out, which is usually where jobs go wrong.
How quickly can you get someone out to look at a site?+
Call 01424 830613 and we will arrange a visit. For sites in East Sussex and the surrounding counties that is usually quick. For work further afield we will normally look to combine the visit with other work in the area, and we will be honest with you about timing rather than leaving you waiting.
Cannot See Your Area?
These are the areas we are asked about most, but we work nationwide. Tell us where the site is and we will let you know straight away whether we can get to you.
Have a Project in Mind?
Tell us what you need moving, clearing or building and we will come back with a straight answer and a fair price.
